I happened to stumble upon a few of those lists yesterday and some really cute names have risen to the top of the lists.

For instance, a hospital in Waterloo reported that for 2024, the five most popular names for baby girls were Lainey, Nora, Adeline, Ava and Emerson. Their most popular names for boys born this year were Ezra, Theodore, Emmett, Henry and Bennett. Nationally, it looks like Olivia is the most popular girl’s name in the United States for the fourth year running. For the boys, the name Noah is taking the top spot for the second year in a row.

I believe names are important, and they especially were in Bible times. A person’s name revealed not only their identity but also secured family ties, reflected God’s purpose for a person’s life and communicated God’s message to others. As God sent His Son into the world, unveiling His name was a critical part of the plan.

In Luke chapter 1, Mary is told by the angel Gabriel she would give birth to a son and to call him Jesus. As Matthew’s Gospel shares, an angel appears to Joseph and says: “You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21) The name Jesus means Savior. Best baby name ever.

– Beth

Bible Quiz:

Question: Who ran to meet the Lord on the plains of Mamre?

Answer: Abraham (Genesis 18:1-2)

Storytime: What do I want?

Just one more Thing!

What Day Is It?
