Do You Notice the New Person?<\/span><\/p>\n

On Sunday, we were at church, which has two services with a Sunday School time in between. I had planned to attend Adult Sunday School, but ended up needing to take one of my kids home who wasn\u2019t feeling well. By the time I returned, I figured I would just hang out in the lobby and chat with folks instead.<\/span><\/p>\n

As I was talking to others, a woman I didn\u2019t recognize was walking through the lobby. She seemed unsure, wandered toward the sanctuary door (which was mostly empty), then back again. It looked like she was about to leave, but I finally asked if I could help. She explained that she wasn\u2019t sure if she had missed the service or what the times were. I was able to give her the information, offer her a visitor’s welcome pack, and share that the next service wouldn\u2019t start for another 45 minutes. However, she decided to go elsewhere instead of waiting, but perhaps she\u2019ll come back.<\/span><\/p>\n

I felt embarrassed because it took me a while to speak up. There were about 20 of us chatting and fellowshipping in the lobby, and I almost let her slip away unnoticed. It was a reminder for me\u2014are we paying attention to those around us? Who is the Holy Spirit prompting us to notice? Who might need a word of kindness or an introduction to the gospel?<\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus calls us to love our neighbors, and sometimes that means noticing when someone is quietly looking for a connection. We must be open to the opportunities He brings, even in our everyday interactions.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”<\/span><\/i> \u2014 Philippians 2:4<\/span><\/p>\n

We may not always know what someone else is going through or why they are at our church, but we can choose to see them, welcome them, and offer the love and hospitality of Christ. Let\u2019s be sensitive to the Spirit\u2019s leading and make room for those He places in our path.<\/span><\/p>\n
