{"id":66465,"date":"2024-11-11T05:02:26","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T11:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kinshipradio.org\/home\/?p=66465"},"modified":"2024-11-11T05:02:26","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T11:02:26","slug":"thoughts-for-veterans-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kinshipradio.org\/home\/thoughts-for-veterans-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts for Veteran&#8217;s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When Thomas Jefferson sat down and wrote that \u201call men are created equal\u201d it wasn\u2019t just part of a declaration of a new country being formed, it was a declaration of war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The idea that people were created in the image of God (imago dei) came straight out of Genesis 1:27. It was a revolutionary idea because it meant that each and every person created by God had certain rights endowed upon them by their Creator and, as such, no human king had the right to trample on or negate those rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And that meant war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The first veterans in this new country of the United States of America fought for a concept that has echoed throughout the world and changed it forever:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Freedom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Approximately two-thirds of the world\u2019s population now lives in full or partial democracies inspired by the American Revolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Freedom was a revolutionary concept then and it still is now, but it didn\u2019t originate with Jefferson. John 8:36:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.\u201d (NIV)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">I have stood in the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. next to the 19-foot tall statue of Thomas Jefferson and read (and memorized) the words inscribed in the stone of the dome that encircles his head that reads:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The point is that while Jefferson and other founders of our country may not have held exactly the same <em>theology<\/em> as any particular Christian denomination today, they were willing to lay down their lives to defend every person\u2019s right and freedom to work out their salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12) \u2013no matter what it was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">So, on this Veteran\u2019s Day, let us remember that the idea of freedom for the same kind of ordinary people like Jesus called to be His disciples was something that originated with our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And let us never forget those who were willing to lay down their lives to defend that freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Today\u2019s Praise<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND UNTO ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF.
