Years ago I attended a customer service training program hosted by a large family-oriented entertainment conglomerate known for its beloved cartoon characters and its very popular theme parks. If you happen to be an actor portraying a character at one of these theme parks, you are required to abide by a certain set of guidelines during your employment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of those guidelines involves how you interact with young children while you are working. If a child comes up to you while you are in character and gives you a hug, you are to continue hugging the child until the child lets go. You could not release yourself from the hug first. I found a video online, one that featured a small child hugging an evil villain character. The villain could offer a deal to try and sway the child to move, or bribe it away entirely, but only the child could break the embrace.<\/span><\/p>\n

The other day, a friend of mine needed a hug in a bad way. I gave her one, too, with the same stipulation I learned in that customer service training. I would hug her, but I wasn\u2019t going to let go of her until she wanted the hug to end. It was the longest hug I think I have ever given. In those several minutes, I could feel her worries and concerns leave her. It didn\u2019t require a lot of words on my part – none on hers – and in the end, there was peace.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s something to be said about putting the love of God into action. Romans 12:9-10 says, \u201c<\/span>Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.\u201d <\/span>Sometimes all it takes to show God\u2019s love is a hug.<\/span><\/p>\n
