The other day I decided to get out my guitar. It has been close to three years since I had it out of the case and as you would expect, it did not sound good. The strings were in bad shape, so I decided to put on a new set of strings. It took quite a while, but I managed to get the guitar in tune – or at least close.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A couple of strings didn\u2019t sound quite right so I was constantly readjusting them, trying to see if I could get the strings to just the right tension to play the correct pitch. I\u2019m no guitar expert by any means but I can safely say that I never got the tuning quite right.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Producing a pitch on a musical instrument is a simple task when you look at it. It\u2019s a matter of getting a string to vibrate at a certain wavelength. For an instrument such as a piano or a guitar, it is a matter of striking or plucking a metal string that is placed under tension. The width and length of the string, along with the amount of tension, determines the pitch that is generated. Vary the thickness and length of the string and you have a series of different notes, creating melodies and harmonies. Put them all together and you have music.<\/span><\/p>\n

To me, music is an ideal representation of what God can do in situations when things get agitated. He can take the worst of trials and create the best opportunities for us to give Him glory. That\u2019s the kind of season David seems to be in when he wrote Psalm 28, but he counters his rough season with these words. \u201c<\/span>The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.\u201d (vs. 7) I hope the next time you are being pulled in every direction, that you will snap back with a song of praise to God.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
