The Burning Question:<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s something you’ve been doing recently that you’re proud of?<\/p>\n

Mo<\/span><\/span>rning Devotional<\/span>:<\/p>\n

I am not looking forward to the next 10 to 12 weeks in my neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s how long it is supposed to take the city and county road crews to resurface the streets I take from my home to the studios here at Kinship Radio. The orange road signs and construction cones have been lining the route for a few weeks and are now multiplying, ready to assume their near-permanent positions for the summer months.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is it that those orange barriers put us in such a sour mood? I don\u2019t know anyone who enjoys being detoured.<\/span><\/p>\n

I like routines. I enjoy knowing exactly the way I am to go and exactly how long it will take me to get there. I like not having any surprises along the way and I find the predictability of going from point A to point B to point C quite comforting. But does life work that way all the time? Rarely. Life runs more along the lines of point A to point D to point H to point L to point W and then, after a few more stops along the way for giggles, arriving at point C, your final destination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We all know detours exist because construction work is needed and when you find yourself on a detour, God is trying to fix, build, correct or improve something. It may be something happening around you, but most likely it\u2019s you.\u00a0 In our spiritual lives, those detours are often called trials or sufferings, and as Paul says in Romans 5, they \u201cproduce perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not going to enjoy the commute to work this summer, but the street will be so much better. We can and should be looking forward to the work being done in our hearts and lives by the Lord. What He\u2019s building there is going to be great.<\/span><\/p>\n
