I was at the grocery store heading toward the checkout lanes one evening when I saw a mother and her three young children there. I felt bad for this mom because her children were acting up and drawing a lot of attention. Perhaps you have been in this situation before.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMommy, I want a candy bar. Mom, can we get some candy? I want some candy!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo, honey, you can\u2019t have candy.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut Mom, I want some candy. Why can\u2019t I have it? I want some now! I REALLY want it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As I worked my way through the checkout process and continued to overhear the trio of kids mercilessly pester their mom, I was reminded of some similar behavior I myself have exhibited recently. Not necessarily to satisfy my own sweet tooth, but to satisfy my wish list with God.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have been very vocal as of late about making my wants known to the Lord and my list has been really long. In examining my prayer life, I came to the realization that I needed to pare some of it down and focus on what I really need, which is a better understanding of Him.<\/span><\/p>\n

I know I am not alone in that struggle. In fact, here\u2019s what Paul had to say about it to the Philippian church:\u00a0 \u201c<\/span>I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.\u201d God will give us the strength we need to be content, and find our true satisfaction in Him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
