I have trouble being a good listener.\u00a0 Often, if what is being said to me strikes me as kind of boring, my mind starts to wonder, and I suddenly realize that I haven\u2019t been listening.\u00a0 Which is incredibly rude.\u00a0 In a world full of distractions, the art of listening is often overlooked. James 1:19 provides us with timeless wisdom: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”<\/span><\/p>\n

As we reflect on this verse, we’re reminded of the transformative power of attentive listening. It’s not merely about hearing words but about engaging with others on a deeper level. When we listen with intentionality, we affirm the value of those speaking, showing them the respect and dignity they deserve as fellow human beings created in the image of God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, listening is an act of love\u2014a tangible expression of our care and concern for others. It allows us to share in their joys and sorrows, to understand their perspectives, and to offer support and encouragement when needed most. In a society where communication often feels rushed and superficial, the gift of attentive listening stands out as a beacon of genuine connection and empathy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let’s embrace the call to be listeners who reflect the heart of Christ, who listened with compassion to all who came to Him. May we cultivate the discipline of attentive listening in our interactions, recognizing it as a sacred opportunity to demonstrate Christlike love and to build meaningful relationships that honor God.<\/span><\/p>\n
