{"id":57642,"date":"2024-01-31T18:52:32","date_gmt":"2024-02-01T00:52:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kinshipradio.org\/home\/?p=57642"},"modified":"2024-01-31T18:52:32","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T00:52:32","slug":"the-second-greatest-carpenter-in-the-bible-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kinshipradio.org\/home\/the-second-greatest-carpenter-in-the-bible-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Second-Greatest Carpenter in the Bible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Okay, I confess I\u2019m having a little fun with the title of this piece.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Of course, Jesus was the greatest carpenter in the Bible, but any guesses as to who comes in second?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">That\u2019s right: Noah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we think about it, building a craft the size of an ark is truly amazing. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bible gives us the dimensions for this astounding craft in Genesis 6:15:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><b>&#8220;This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its <\/b><b>breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits.&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ( ESV)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Now, there&#8217;s some debate as to the exact size of &#8220;cubit,&#8221; but that would most likely result in a craft\u00a0 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">That\u2019s an enormous structure to make entirely of wood!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we do the math, the ark would require about 3.1 million board feet <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of lumber.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s likely the ark, when <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">completed, weighed over half a million pounds!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With three stories inside, it would have over 100,000 square feet of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">floor space\u2014that\u2019s equivalent to the square footage of 50 average <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American homes. While trees in Noah\u2019s time were probably much <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">larger, the ark today would require cutting down about 700 trees. From a storage-capacity standpoint, the ark could hold the equivalent of 450 semi-trailer loads, which is enough space for 112,500 sheep.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bible says Noah was 480 years old when God told him to build <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ark and the rain came when Noah was 600 years old. While some <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">naturally assume this means it took Noah 120 years to build the ark, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bible doesn\u2019t actually say that.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In more recent times, a man in Holland named Johan Huibers actually built a half-size ark in 2007. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It cost about $1.2 million and took him two years to build. Of course, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Huibers simply bought the boards and lumber to make the ark. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, in 2016, Answers in Genesis opened a theme park called Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky. They had employed a thousand Amish craftsmen working over a period of 18 months to build a life-size ark as described in the Bible.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there weren&#8217;t a thousand Noahs all working together. And, we know for certain he could not have walked into the local lumber yard and bought<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3.1 million board feet of lumber. He would have had to cut down the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trees and turn them into lumber using iron and bronze tools. Then he <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">would have had to shape them, fit them, and join them \u2013all without <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">using a single power tool.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then Noah had to coat the entire ark, inside and out, with pitch &#8211;that&#8217;s a sticky, tar-like goo made by boiling the sap of trees. And that wasn&#8217;t a speedy process either.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Truly, the ark has to be the most amazing wood-working project ever <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">completed. It saved the human race from destruction and we all owe our earthly lives to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noah\u2019s faith, trust, and obedience to God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As astounding as Noah&#8217;s ark was, the greatest wooden structure in the Bible were the two simple two wooden beams <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">joined together to form the cross. It was the faith, trust, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">obedience of Jesus that made <strong><em>eternal<\/em><\/strong> life possible for us all.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Today\u2019s Praise<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Genesis 9:12-13<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>And God said, \u201cThis is the sign of the covenant that I make between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.<\/strong>\u00a0 (ESV)<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Okay, I confess I\u2019m having a little fun with the title of this piece.
