Your name, where you’re from, if you’re married with children, you share that, and then you share what you do for a living. I am very blessed to be able to share what I do for a living now but that hasn’t always been the case. I have held down jobs that weren’t exactly my favorite. I was a pizza delivery driver, a telemarketer, a factory worker, a data entry clerk, a gas station cashier, I even sold cosmetics for a while. They were jobs I needed at the time but I struggled with them because I felt at the time they didn’t do anything to build up my resume, much less my identity. Boy, was I wrong.

The pizza delivery and telemarketing jobs taught me how to talk to people whether they wanted to hear from me or not. The factory job? That place taught me how not to get caught up in the pull of gossip and educated me on the importance of integrity. The cosmetics sales job? That’s where I learned all about finances. Someone had to keep the books and it was me! The biggest lesson I learned in all of my jobs though, including the one I have now, is what Paul says to us in Colossians chapter three: “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” (vs. 23:24)

We are all back at work from the Labor Day weekend today.
