I love thunderstorms, so when I heard the first rumbles of thunder yesterday evening I got really excited &#8211; so much that instead of going to bed like I should have, I got my shoes on and went out to my front porch, hoping to take in a spectacular sound and light show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was disappointed. It did rain but not as long as I wanted it to and definitely not as hard as I had hoped either. I was really longing for one of those good, hard Midwestern thunderstorms with all the fury of the wind, the flashes of lightning and the roar of thunder that comes with a good hard rain. Why, you might ask? All those elements serve as very real reminders to me of the awesome might and power of God and the protection He gives us. .<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are great lessons we can learn in storms, both in weather and in life. We learn that God is always to be our shelter &#8211; He is our refuge and strength, according to Psalm 46. If we rest in Him as the eye of the storm, we can see the storm all around us, but we remain in His safe zone. The view is scary and sometimes it takes everything we have not to panic there, but in that place we can rest.
