Morning Devotional<\/span>:<\/p>\n

A meal shared nourishes the soul.<\/span><\/p>\n

I saw that quote on a mural in a cafeteria a while back and it never left me because I believe it to be very true. It certainly played out for me last night as I got together with a group of old friends for a barbecue. We all used to work together at a store two friends in our group owned together and we spent the evening catching up on life, enjoying a great meal, and reveling in each other\u2019s company. I loved the night and I found myself amazingly restored after a trying day at work.<\/span><\/p>\n

There really is something about gathering together with others at the dinner table. You take in that which is good – nourishment, yes, but also fellowship and many cases, restoration. In the case of a famous dinner in the gospels, a special meal not only nurtured a certain group of men\u2019s souls but anchored the church to follow in the great sacrifice Jesus made for us. Here’s what the Word has to say about it:\u00a0 “On the night he was betrayed Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.\u201d In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, \u201cThis cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ \u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s a meal that brings me to the place of worship to the One who gave His life for us.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
