One of those times was when I traveled to Haiti on a mission trip. I love language, and when I discovered the relationship between French and Haitian Creole, I had a blast trying to pick up some of the vocabulary and use it in daily conversation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the place where we were staying, a local woman named Mimi had been hired to help prepare meals for our team. One afternoon I was sitting at the kitchen table reading my Bible when she proceeded to join me with a copy of her Bible &#8211; mine in English, hers in Haitian Creole. Not knowing a word of her language, and she knowing only a few words of broken English, we both somehow agreed to read John chapter three out loud together &#8211; one verse at a time, in each other\u2019s language.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we both got to verse 16, something special happened.
