I have this every couple of months and the lab techs know me well. Probably too well, because they know exactly how I handle physical pain. As I sat in the chair, the lab tech readied her needles and supplies and then proceeded to ask me, “Beth, what song will it be today?” You see, when I feel pain, I sing.

It all started as a joke, really. I was in the office having labs drawn several years ago and this one time it really, really hurt – and in a split second attempt to cope, I broke out singing the chorus of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” As I belted out “Glory, glory hallelujah,” the lab tech laughed, the whole room laughed, I laughed, the pain subsided and in a bizarre way, God was glorified. The tradition stuck, too. So now whenever I experience pain, it is my habit to pull out a favorite song of praise.

Life can be painful at times, and praise to God carries us through those times. Let’s make the commitment David made in Psalm 69:29-30: “But as for me, afflicted and in pain, may your salvation, God, protect me. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.”

– Beth

Burning Question:

What could you do with seven million dollars for the cause of Christ?

Bible Quiz:

Question: Who fasted for 40 days after his baptism?

Answer: Jesus (Matthew 4:1-2)

Storytime: They got Chewed out and I loved it.

Just one more thing…

Morning Devotional: When it hurts, I sing.
